We get so many interesting questions on precious metal and wire just thought I would give you some off the wall trivia. Here goes:
1. The price of gold is determined twice daily by the members of the London Gold Market at the Rothschild Bank in London and it is then transmitted throughout the world. 2. One troy ounce of pure gold can be made into a wire over 50 miles long! 3. How old is a diamond? From one to three billion years! 4. Platinum is the heaviest metal of all the common precious metals. 5. There is no silver in nickel silver wire. It is made from copper, zinc and nickel. 6. The addition of copper to silver is what makes it harder. 7. During the gold rush years, Nevada County was the highest gold producing county in California with over $440,000,000 in gold production. 8. The gold rush of the 1800's by today's standards produced more than 50 billion dollars of gold. 9. It is estimated that more than 80% of the Mother Load gold is still in the ground! 10. The largest gold nugget ever found weighed 195 pounds and was found at Carson Hill near the Stanislaus River in California. 11. Pure Gold is 1000% fine or 24 carat. 12. The invention of the wire coat hanger is attributed to Albert Parkhouse in 1903. The first wire paper clip was patented by Samuel B. Fay in 1867. Its original intention was to attach tickets to fabric. 13. The largest diamond ever found was 3,106 carats! |
